The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
