The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
