He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
