In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
