The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And the day resplendent 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
