The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
