Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
