۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "You and your fathers were in clear error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: "In fact it was your Lord, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them; and I bear witness to this. 56 And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 [And when he came.] they asked: "Hast thou done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then their minds were turned upside down, and they said: "You know well that they do not speak." 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 and We saved him and Lot and brought him to the land upon which We had bestowed Our blessings for all the people of the world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 and appointed them to be leaders guiding by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good deeds, and to perform the prayer, and to pay the alms, and Us they served. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
