The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 and taught to him 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His (Muhammad's) heart did not lie to him about what his eyes had seen. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
