The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
