The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
