The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
