The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
