The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
