The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
