The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
