Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the night when it withdraweth. 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 About the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They said, "We never used to offer the prayer." 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As if they were startled donkeys - 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 By no means. In fact they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
