By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 By the dawn when it lightens! 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 in Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
