Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens they will question 40 And (ask) of the Sinners: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
