Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning for people -- 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 And did not feed the needy, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 “And used to deny the Day of Justice.” 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
