The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude. 9 “Indeed we fear from our Lord a day which is extremely bitter, most severe.” 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 In that [garden] they will on couches recline, and will know therein neither [burning] sun nor cold severe, 13 And its shade will cover them, and its fruit clusters brought down low for them. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
