The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
WAS THERE NOT a time in the life of man when he was not even a mentionable thing? 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 But the righteous shall drink of a goblet mixed with camphor; 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful." 10 So Allah will save them from the evil of that Day and has secured for them radiance and joyfulness, 11 And will reward them for what they patiently endured [with] a garden [in Paradise] and silk [garments]. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 the shading branches of trees will come down low over them, and their clusters of fruit, will hang down where they are the easiest to reach. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds). 16 They will drink cups containing (soft flowing) sparkling water 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ There boys of everlasting youth shall go about attending them: when you see them, you would think that they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
