The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered? 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Verily, the Abrar (pious, who fear Allah and avoid evil), shall drink a cup (of wine) mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafur. 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 and who give food - however great be their own want of it - unto the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Surely we fear from our Lord a stern, distressful day. 10 Wherefore Allah shall preserve them from the evil of that Day, and shall cause them to meet brightness and joy. 11 And gave them Paradise and silk clothes, as a reward for their patience. 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 crystal of silver that they have measured -- very exactly. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 [derived from] a source [to be found] therein, whose name is "Seek Thy Way". 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) boys of everlasting youth. If you see them, you would think them scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
