The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
