The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they have been differing? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 We have built above you seven mighty heavens, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
