The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as projections (thereon)? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 But they (impudently) treated Our Signs as false. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
