He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 You neglect. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
