He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and fears (Allah), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and purified. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
