He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
