He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
