He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
