He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay him no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 olives, dates, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
