He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
