He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble, pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
