He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
