He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
