He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
