He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 most exalted and purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
