He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
