He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
