He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
