He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
