He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
