He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
