He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
