He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
