He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
