The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is folded up, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 And when the mountains are driven. 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 And when the seas are set afire. 6 And when the souls are paired. 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped off and taken away from its place; 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 then shall a soul know what it has produced. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 And by the planets that move swiftly and hide themselves, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 Owner of strength, of established dignity with the Lord of the Throne. 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Where to are you then heading? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight. 28 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation. 29
