The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun (with its spacious light) is folded up; 1 The stars turn dim and scatter, 2 And when the mountains shall be made to pass away, 3 The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts shall be mustered, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 And when the written pages of deeds (good and bad) of every person shall be laid open; 10 And when the heaven shall be stripped, 11 and when the blazing fire [of hell] is kindled bright, 12 And when the Garden shall be brought nigh, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 Who move straight and stop. 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 [That] indeed, the Qur'an is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 obeyed, moreover trusty. 21 And (O people!) your companion is not one possessed; 22 he truly beheld him [the angel] on the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 It is nothing but Good Counsel for everyone in the world, 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
