The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 when the pregnant camels are neglected, 4 And when the wild animals are made to go forth, 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 souls are reunited with their bodies, 7 And the little girl buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 when heaven is stripped, 11 and Hell is stoked, 12 And when the Garden is brought nigh, 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 I swear by the receding stars. 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 and the night that falls, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 And your companion is not [at all] mad. 22 And of a truth he saw himself on the clear horizon. 23 And this Prophet is not miserly upon the hidden. (Allah gave the knowledge of the hidden to the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.) 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Whither, then, will you go? 26 It is not except a reminder to the worlds 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
