The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not realize that they will be resurrected 4 on a great day 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Nay! Truly, the Record (writing of the deeds) of the Fujjar (disbelievers, sinners, evil-doers and wicked) is (preserved) in Sijjin. 7 and what shall teach thee what is Sijjin? 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 And none can deny it except every transgressor beyond bounds, (in disbelief, oppression and disobedience of Allah, the sinner!) 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, “Stories of earlier men!” 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 and it will be said to them: 'This is that which you belied' 17 No! Indeed, the record of the righteous is in 'illiyyun. 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a source [of bliss] whereof those who are drawn close unto God shall drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Will not the infidels pay for what they had done? 36
